Drinking Coffee After You Wake Up?

Drinking a cup of coffee in the morning might get you going, but do you ever experience that crash in the afternoon? Research suggests that it’s actually best to drink your coffee 60-90 minutes after you wake up.

Caffeine is a stimulant and also an adenosine receptor blocker. Adenosine is a neurotransmitter in your body that helps regulate sleep. Throughout the day, adenosine accumulates, making you feel sleepy at night. When you wake up, it takes about 60-90 minutes for adenosine levels to diminish naturally. If you drink coffee before your body is able to process the adenosine, it becomes blocked temporarily, and once the caffeine wears off, the adenosine that has been building up can lead to a sudden crash.

The best way to wake up is actually to get direct sunlight and drink some water!
